Guangzhou reveals more back to school plans
Guangzhou Education Department announced on February 19th that all schools and training agencies should resume classes in different waves, and should not start any offline group activities before the end of February based on provincial instructions.
The municipal department gave detailed guidelines on how schools will resume classes:
First: senior students of high schools
Second: other secondary students; primary school students; senior students of vocational schools
Third: other students of vocational schools; kindergartens
Universities and colleges can decide the opening dates themselves but should start no earlier than primary or secondary schools. Universities will have their students return for the new semester at different times based on students’ hometowns, schools or year of study.
Training agencies must not resume classes before schools in the city.
In addition, all types of examination should be postponed and all internship projects should be suspended until the end of February.
The department stressed that all schools and training agencies must pass the inspection on epidemic control and prevention organised by the local education department before classes can begin again.
Schools should record the health status and travel history of both students and teachers for the 14 day period before the semester starts. Teachers and students who are sick or under medical observation are not allowed to return to school.
Schools have been given the option of making up missed teaching hours using weekends (1 day, Saturday or Sunday) or the summer holiday after term begins.
